Women of the Wall
on being heard and not being silenced...
In the JWN we pride ourselves on being "across the spectrum", and we want to engage in dialogue with all women, regardless of whether they share our views.
This feature on the Women of the Wall raises some complex emotive issues. The women are campaigning for the right to pray out loud and wear a tallit (prayer shawl) at the Western Wall. What might this campaign mean to different people? Is it a fight for the religious rights of women? Is it a vehicle to advance women's rights in a wider sense? Is it of relevance only to religious women or of benefit to all, on the basis that freedom is indivisible?
